Scientists Have a Sharing Problem

A fundamental reason for including details of the research process in our Methods and Materials sections of publications is to describe what we did so that others are able to, within reason, replicate the study or build on the evidence in their own research. This ideal is achieved, at least in part, by sharing data between researchers. However, as this article highlights, there are a number of factors that get in the way of sharing data in the scientific community.
