Back in July, I posted information about a grant that a group of us submitted to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The funding competition was designed to support research in bariatric care for severe obesity, which included both applied health services/clinical research and basic/mechanistic studies.
On Friday, we learned that of the 7 applications submitted to this competition, 3 were funded…and ours ranked 1st.
It was wonderful to share this news with our team, which includes ~50 researchers, collaborators, and policy-makers from across the country, all of whom contributed to our submission. We proposed several studies that we’ll conduct over the next 5 years, including everything from determining the prevalence of severe obesity in Canadian children and youth to testing novel interventions to help families improve their weight and health. Over the coming months, stay tuned for more updates on our Team to Address Bariatric Care in Canadian Children (Team ABC3).
