Over the years, we’ve learned a few things about presenting and publishing qualitative research related to obesity.
A summary of what we’ve learned was published last week in Nutrition & Diabetes and is available online here, which included a brief review of the (in-)frequency with which qualitative data are published in obesity-specific journals.
As an aside, and something that didn’t make it into our paper (which I co-authored with Arnaldo Perez), was the email we exchanged with the editors of different journals as we solicited interest in our paper. The back-and-forth emails highlighted some of the perceptions/misperceptions editors had regarding qualitative research (“lack of data”, “poor quality research”). Hopefully, some of our insights and suggestions will be useful to others leading (and publishing!) qualitative research in our field.
