Is Childhood Obesity a Disease?

As many will know, the topic of whether or not obesity is a disease is a debatable (often hotly!) issue.

There are a number of published reports (two examples are here and here), including passionate and dispassionate perspectives on this topic. Ongoing questions include: Does obesity meet the definition of a disease? Is it a risk factor for other diseases? At what point might obesity become a disease? Of course, numerous factors are involved, from financial to measurement to personal to ideological.

Continuing this discourse, the Childhood Obesity Task Force of the European Association for the Study of Obesity recently published a manuscript in Obesity Facts describing their perspective.
