A growing number of researchers and clinicians have embraced the parents as agents of change (PAC) approach to managing pediatric obesity.
Today, Amy Drahota presented preliminary data on the feasibility and acceptability of a PAC-based intervention for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder from her research program in San Diego. She’s collaborating with Kerri Boutelle, one of the clinical and research leaders in working with parents for managing pediatric obesity. Other speakers highlighted the application of PAC-based interventions for rural communities (David Janicke) as well as combining home + in-clinic support for young children (<5 years old) with obesity (Lori Stark). The evidence-base is growing in this area, which we plan to contribute to over the next year as the results of our (1) PAC clinical trial and (2) predictors of attrition from PAC interventions projects are finalized.
