Initiating Weight Management: Experiences and Recommendations

There are a number of challenges to effective weight management in children and families. One of the biggest? Just getting started!

Two recent papers published in Paediatrics & Child Health (the official journal of the Canadian Paediatric Society) focused on this issue.

Bailey et al (a group that included our colleague and friend Katherine Morrison) interviewed boys and girls just starting pediatric weight management in Hamilton, ON, exploring their emotions and motivations at treatment onset. The other paper, a commentary published by me and Arnaldo Perez, combined a lot of what we’ve learned over the years from parents, families, and clinicians regarding initiating care for obesity in children.
